Software Development Manager

About the Business

Are you currently a software development manager or a senior developer looking to take a step into a managerial role? I'm working with one of Manchester's best-known tech agencies that specialise in helping eCommerce businesses scale quickly and effectively.

Due to several large-scale campaign wins and an unrivalled reputation they are now looking for two software development managers. One front end focused the other back end.

About You

The business lives and breathes employee well-being, therefore it is important to understand that they genuinely value work - life balance. This means you can choose to work from where you please, with flexible hours. Ideally, you'll be able to come to Manchester once every two weeks for staff meet ups, aside from that you can choose whether to work in the office or at home.

You'll be passionate about technology and keep abreast of latest industry trends and tools. You'll be working closely with the Head of Development to manage a wide range of projects. The software development manager must also take responsibility for managing a small team of developers as well as writing clean, well structured code using the best software development practices. You will take an active role in mentoring more junior developers and take pride in passing on your knowledge to the wider team for them to improve. As a rough guide this role is 60% hands on development, 40% coaching and managing.

Due to the nature of this businesses work, they deploy more regularly than a lot of their competitors, meaning if you enjoy varied projects and ownership of the full project lifecycle this role would be a great fit.

Required experience

  • Experience of coaching and or managing a small dev team (in an official or unofficial capacity)
  • Writing clean, well-documented code
  • Providing technical input and direction based on a project by project basis
  • Building complex web applications
  • People management / 121's etc
  • Working alongside HR to effectively recruit new team members

Tech skills
** As the business is seeking both a back-end manager and a front end manager someone with any of the following skills would be of interest

  • Commercial experience with PHP and PHP-based frameworks - e.g. Laravel Zend, CodeIgniter,
  • Ability to produce clean, well-documented, efficient and standards-compliant code to articulate and build complex applications
  • Technical experience working with MySQL; Linux; PHPUnit; Basic HTML; XML; Git/SVN

OR

  • Commercial experience with JavaScript frameworks e.g. backbone, AngularJS or React
  • Ability to produce clean, well-documented, efficient and standards-compliant code to articulate and build complex applications
  • Technical experience working with: XML, PHP, SQL, HTML

Benefits

The business offers private healthcare 32 days holidays, mostly remote (if preferred), flexible working, individual PDP's for every staff member and have a proven track record of promoting internally.

If you are a software development manager or looking to step into a management at a fast-growing tech focused business please apply with CV to arrange a chat (over video) with their head of culture next week.
