Better Placed has been proudly supporting Pancreatic Cancer Action for the last five years. Kate Siegel, our Business Manager in London, sadly lost her dear mum to pancreatic cancer and has since been an active ambassador of the cause. Since then, Kate has raised more than £30,000 for the charity whose main goals are to raise awareness of this silent killer and improve the lives of those diagnosed, earlier on.

Following on from a vlog by Kate last week (which you can see on our company pages), this post takes a look back at some of the most exciting fundraising activities we have conducted over the years and lays out our 2020 plans of how we intend to raise awareness this year. Read on to find out more and learn how you can support our chosen charity.

 Race to Rome: 24-hour cycle

The Better Placed Team took on the mighty task of cycling the equivalent distance from England to Rome to earn funds from sponsors. With our collective team spirit, we managed to cover enough kilometres to reach our target within the 24-hour window! 38 cyclists, three offices and a 24 Hour challenge, is was an amazing team effort!

Turn it Purple in the office

Pancreatic Cancer Action holds an annual Turn it Purple campaign where the team engaged in dressing in purple-wear and decorating the office with purple, whilst postering about the risks of Pancreatic Cancer. Raising money to lobby government officials and support doctors and GPs is essential in diagnosing pancreatic cancer. Still, it’s just as crucial for individuals to be aware of the risk factors so they can be proactive in identifying symptoms and increase their risk of survival.

 Santa Run :

Kate ran the December London Santa Run with a good friend of hers (and hundreds of other Santas!) and raised close to £14k!

This year, our fifth supporting Pancreatic Cancer, we are in an unusual situation with many members of staff working away from the office, so we’ve taken a new approach to support Pancreatic Cancer Action this year.

As a team, we are coming together remotely to take on a ‘WALK TO VEGAS’ challenge footsteps challenge throughout November. As a team, we intend to walk the distance between here and Vegas in steps. That’s 10million steps which should exceed 5,000 miles. You can support us by donating.

Because it won’t be so easy to raise funds in the office, we have set up a text donation link in partnership with Pancreatic Cancer Action, as well as running a JustGiving page:

On Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day (19th November 2020), we will be dedicating our company social pages to promoting awareness of this dreadful illness. Staff across our offices in London, Manchester, and Leeds will be displaying posters throughout offices and in their homes to raise awareness to family members and neighbours and other businesses. We will also be taking part in the Turn It Purple and Purple Heart campaigns for the week.

Comment a  💜 and hashtag #PurpleHeart to show your support throughout Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and Turn It Purple wherever you see an opportunity too. Order a free Turn It Purple kit from Pancreatic Cancer Action.
