About the Category Manager role:

Our client is a market leading FMCG business with a strong branded portfolio of category leading products. Following a successful growth period and significant investment an exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced Category Manager to join the team.

The key remit of the role of Category Manager is to lead the development of the grocery retail category plans for the businesses most successful brand. You will build and manage relationships with the grocery retail customers, identifying and creating  category opportunities to drive growth in each account. You will manage the portfolio strategy, making recommendations on the core range and supporting the marketing team with their innovative pipeline and trade selling stories.

You will ideally have at least three years experience in a Category Management role, preferably gained in a branded FMCG business. Candidates with Category Management experience in a private label business are still encouraged to apply. You will need to be proficient with continuous data sets such as Kantar, DunnHumby, and IRI to identify actionable recommendations for your brand.

About the Experienced Category Manager role:

Better Placed are proud to be working with a market and category leading FMCG business with an impressive history of growth delivered through a commitment to innovation. Our client is looking to further accelerate their performance with the appointment of a best in class Category Manager.

Reporting to the Commercial Director, this is a highly autonomous and customer facing role. Working alongside a talented account management team, you will lead the category agenda within one of the largest grocery retailers, tasked with driving mutual growth strategies in line with company objectives. The role also incorporates line management of 1 Category Executive.

The successful candidate will be ultimately responsible for the internal and external delivery of category support and the overall strategy, including insight generation and reporting, management of customer range reviews, merchandising, and relationships across all grocery retail customers.

This role will require a high degree of numeric and data literacy in order to develop compelling category arguments and have the ability to present/implement proposals in conjunction with key customer contacts. You will be able to identify key opportunities and implement mutually beneficial category strategy.

In order to be considered for this role, you should have:

  • Experience in an FMCG environment
  • Understands retail environment/market place
  • Understands retail principles and tools of category management and strategic management
  • Previous customer-facing role
  • Category management and strategy experience

About the Category Executive role:

Better Placed are proud to be working with a leading branded FMCG business based in West Yorkshire. The company as experienced a great amount of growth and as a result are seeking to appoint a Category Executive to join their high performing team.

Working closely with key retailers this role will see you analysing a variety of industry data to assist in the assessment of the category as a whole. Assisting the Category Manager you will help to contribute towards a category strategy to further grow and develop the category. The role will be fast paced and ever changing, being a quick learner who can adapt easily is essential.

Requirements:

  • Be able to establish strong relationships with specified retailers encouraging the development of joint category initiatives
  • Development of the category strategy and vision to influence category development including range, space and merchandising plans
  • Use consumer insight to understand the shopper decision making process
  • Support the implementation of shopper marketing strategy and identify retailer media opportunities
  • Must be proficient on excel

The successful candidate will have prior exposure to industry data standards such as Kantar, Nielson, IRI or retailer specific data. Being number orientated yet able to interface with people is essential as this role will work closely with some of the UKs largest retailers.
